Best dog beds in Australia: why calming cave beds win

If your dog still treats the floor like a mattress, you are not alone. Australian dog owners search for comfort that actually gets used — not a fancy cushion that becomes expensive laundry.

What makes a good dog bed

• Enough structure that your dog sinks in without bottoming out on hard floors
• A shape that matches how they sleep (curl-up vs sprawl)
• Covers or fabrics that cope with shedding and the occasional muddy paw
• A size that fits your dog and your living room

Why calming cave beds work

Cave-style beds give “walls of hug” — soft sides that anxious or noise-sensitive dogs often prefer. Many small and medium breeds curl up by default, so an enclosed nest feels safer than an open mattress.

Quick fit tips

• Measure your dog nose-to-tail base while curled, then add a little room
